You schedule the exam online or by phone, but you take it in person. "Online" applies to booking your reservation and to Pearson VUE's separate practice product, not to the Texas licensing exam itself.
Here is the distinction that clears up the confusion:
- Scheduling is online or by phone. You book your seat through your Pearson VUE account or by calling, then show up at the center.
- The licensing exam is in person. You take it on a computer at the test center, supervised on site.
- The Pearson practice test is online. It covers general real estate content, not the Texas State Law portion, and it is a separate paid product rather than the licensing exam.

Eligible service members, dependents, and contractors with authorized access may also be able to use a participating Pearson VUE on-base test center. How to schedule your exam
After TREC makes you exam-eligible, create or sign in to your Pearson VUE account, or call (800) 997-1248. Choose an available center and appointment, then pay the current reservation fee. Pearson does not accept walk-ins.
The steps are short:
- Wait for TREC to mark you eligible and issue your eligibility letter with your TREC ID number.
- Schedule online through your Pearson VUE account, or call Pearson VUE at (800) 997-1248.
- Choose an available Pearson VUE test center and appointment. Pearson advises scheduling online at least 24 hours before your desired date, subject to availability.
- Pay the $58 sales examination fee listed in the current September 2026 candidate handbook, revision 08/2026. Confirm the amount during checkout because fees can change.
