A focused 14-day retake checklist for turning your score report into weighted study blocks, timed practice, and a cleaner Pearson VUE retake day.
While your application is active, Pearson VUE says to retake only the failed portion. TREC separately keeps each passed section valid for one year from its passing date. After a third consecutive failed examination, TREC Rule §535.57 requires additional qualifying education before another examination or a new application. Use the failed-exam guide before setting dates if any of those rules may affect you.

Days 1-3Save the score report and write your exact score for each portion at the top
Note which portion you failed: national, Texas state law, or both
Record the application expiration date and the passing date of any section you already passed
The application and each passed section have separate one-year clocks
List every weak content area shown for the failed portion

Take one fresh timed diagnostic for the failed portion after a reset day
Build a 14-day schedule with heaviest weak topics first

Days 4-9Day 4: Repair your highest-weight weak topic
Study the rule, then answer 30-40 targeted questions
Day 5: Repair the second-highest weak topic
Day 6: Repair title, agency, property, or appraisal if weak

Simulate & Confirm

Score by topic area and make a final miss list
Days 11-12: Drill remaining misses only

Day 13: Second fresh timed set for the failed portion
Confirm readiness
Clear the official passing line repeatedly on fresh timed sets, finish without a late rush, and explain the misses that remain
Day 14: Pack two current signature IDs, appointment details, and an approved calculator
Rest. Early bedtime. Exam tomorrow.

- Several fresh timed results clear the official passing line
- No repeated miss pattern remains in a high-weight weak area
- Math setups work without notes
- EXCEPT / NOT errors are controlled
- The application and any passed-section dates have been checked
- Admission items are verified before the appointment
- THEN book the retake
Exam Day Reminders
Report 30 minutes early for check-in
Bring two valid signature IDs, one government-issued
Bring an approved calculator if you use one
Use only issued testing materials for notes or formulas
Answer confident questions first and mark the rest
Watch for EXCEPT and NOT (they flip the question)
Ask permission before leaving the room; lost time is not restored
