A Fair Housing protected class covering households with children under 18 and pregnant people.
Familial status is a protected class under the Fair Housing Act. It protects families with one or more children under 18, people who are pregnant, and those in the process of securing custody of a child.
Refusing to rent to a family with children, or limiting them to certain units or floors, generally violates the Act, with a narrow exception for qualified housing for older persons.
