Exam logistics

How to schedule the Texas real estate exam, and reschedule without losing your fee.

Reserving with Pearson VUE, the 24-hour booking rule, the $43 fee, the 48-hour change deadline, and what counts as an excused absence.

    Quick answer

Once TREC sends your eligibility letter, reserve online or by phone at least 24 hours ahead (no walk-ins). The $43 fee is paid when you book. To change or cancel without losing it, call Pearson VUE at least 48 hours before your exam.

    The reservation

Six things to know before you book.

Scheduling is simple once you are eligible, but the timing rules and the fee policy are where candidates get caught.

    When you can book
    After TREC eligibility

You can only reserve once TREC has sent your eligibility letter with your TREC ID number. Pearson cannot schedule you before that.

    How to reserve
    Online or phone

Reserve online at the Pearson VUE Texas real estate page, or by phone at (800) 997-1248. First-time users create an account.

    Advance window
    At least 24 hours

Make your reservation at least 24 hours before the date you want. Walk-in examinations are not available.

    The fee
    $43

The $43 sales exam fee is paid at the time of reservation by credit/debit card or voucher. Payment is not accepted at the test center.

    Change / cancel
    48 hours ahead

Call Pearson VUE at least 48 hours before the exam to change or cancel. Miss that window and you forfeit the fee.

    Arrive
    30 minutes early

On exam day, report to the test center 30 minutes before your appointment for check-in and ID.

    Have these ready

What Pearson VUE asks for when you book.

Gather these before you start so the reservation takes a few minutes, not a frustrating half hour.

    Your legal name

It must match the government photo ID you will bring to the test center. A mismatch can mean denied admission and a forfeited fee.

    Contact details

A physical mailing address, email address, and daytime phone number for your Pearson VUE account and appointment.

    Your TREC ID number

It comes from the TREC eligibility letter. Pearson needs it to register you for the correct exam.

The exam name and your preferences

Know which exam (or portion) you are scheduling, plus your preferred date and test center. A test-center list is on the back cover of the candidate handbook.

    Changing or canceling

    • To change or cancel, call Pearson VUE at (800) 997-1248 at least 48 hours before the exam.
    • With proper notice you can transfer your fee to a new reservation or request a refund.
    • Change or cancel without proper notice and you forfeit the examination fee.
    • Refunds to credit/debit cards are immediate; voucher refunds take about 2-3 weeks.

    Missed it? Excused absences

    • If you are late or absent, you may call Pearson VUE within 14 days of the exam date to request an excused absence.
    • Excused reasons include illness of you or an immediate family member, a death in the immediate family, a disabling traffic accident, court appearance or jury duty, military duty, and weather emergencies.
    • A case number is assigned and you email supporting documentation.
    • If you are absent or late and did not change the reservation per the policy, you are not admitted and you forfeit the fee.
    • For severe weather or a natural disaster, Pearson VUE may delay or cancel the exam and will notify and reschedule affected candidates.
