A detailed NEPA document analyzing significant environmental effects and alternatives for a proposed major federal action.
An Environmental Impact Statement, or EIS, is prepared through the National Environmental Policy Act process for a proposed major federal action expected to significantly affect the human environment.
The EIS describes environmental effects, reasonable alternatives, and mitigation. It is not a private buyer's contamination inspection and does not replace a Phase I or Phase II assessment.
